Greek and roman architecture are related each other. This is because roman architecture adapted and borrowed the Greek style to build their own style. The influence of Greek architecture to Roman is quite significant. It can be seen from the use of Triclinium in Roman used as a place of dining, which wasn’t seen in early buildings Rome before. However, there are still some differences between these two styles although one adapted the other.

The different purpose of the two styles ended up in a different decoration of temples they build. Actually, both built temple for God, but the difference is that the Greek only decorated their temple on the outside, not the inside. Rome has different perception. They thought that having beautiful decoration outside means that the inside should be beautiful as well. It shows that Greek always built their temples for religious purpose whereas roman more focus on the architecture view of their temples. Another difference between Greek and roman architecture can be seen from the features. Greek has three column orders consist of Doric, ionic, and Corinthian in their buildings, whereas roman architecture featured of arch, vault and dome. While Greek built their building structures on the top of hills, the way roman adapted just change the hills into architectural structures. The materials used by Greek consist of lime stone, marbles, plaster, terracotta, woods, unbaked bricks and bronze, whereas the roman building built from concrete.

Greek and roman architecture has their own characteristic of building, but the way roman construct their building mostly inspired from Greek architecture, which has been edited depends on their culture in order to produce a unique style of architecture. Except building temple for religious reason, Greek buildings built for political like celebration of civic power whereas roman built their buildings to reflect the power of theirs in the display.
