Stylish Lighting in the Kitchen

Good lighting helps make any kitchen comfortable and safe. Natural light is important, but think about the places where natural light will not light up or light poorly. Consider cloudy days, and remember that much of your work at home will be done overnight.

Good lighting helps make any kitchen comfortable and safe. Natural light is important, but think about the places where natural light will not light up or light poorly. Consider cloudy days, and remember that much of your work at home will be done overnight.

This means that artificial light is keys. Multiple light sources and different illumination modes reduce shadows, glare or blind spots and provide light just where needed for kitchen activities.

As a rule, you must provide a mixture of three lighting modes.

  • Ambient lighting – lighting for the room in general, usually provided by recessed lighting fixtures, ceiling, or sliding on rails. The number and location of accessories shall provide uniform illumination without dark spots or “hot”.
  • Lighting directed – Provides shadow-free task lighting for food preparation or other cooking tasks. It is usually provided by bats or below the cabinets, or accessories like lights to hang.
  • Decorative lighting – Contributes as a decorative element and helps create focal points as a display of dishes, a favorite painting or dining area. It can come from lights or recessed rails sliding for high intensity, or hanging accessories.

Each of these styles must be controlled separately so you can choose the right mix of lighting for each activity in the kitchen. The potentiometer for decorative and ambient lighting allows you to change the atmosphere or the look of the kitchen as well as the level of general lighting.

And of course you can choose the type of light. Usually the best plan is to combine these types using the advantages of each.

  • Incandescent – The traditional choice for its warming effect. Radiates enough heat.
  • Halogen – A brighter, more “white” for the same or less wattage. It has a longer life than standard incandescent.
  • Fluorescent bulbs – now include a variety of colors and warmth to create the same effect as the incandescent. The bulbs are available for use in all types of accessories, as well as traditional tubes. They use less energy, less heat and last longer.
